NEW YORK CITY
Since graduation, I have known that New York City was my destination. I made a goal to not move there until I got an official job and gave myself until September to figure everything out, and I have stuck to my word! I am moving to NYC this Tuesday to start my new post-grad life in a new city! I got a job offer from a media agency that I have been really interested in for the past few months and it aligns perfectly with what I am looking for as the start to my career and my interests. I am beyond thrilled to finally embark on the next stage of my life. I am ready to utilize the knowledge and skills I’ve gained from my classes at Emerson and internship and work experiences.
This is what I’ve wanted for the last four years, to have a job in a field that I was studying and actually liked. It is crazy that it is finally happening. It is a strange feeling to actually get what you want in life. I’ve always chased my goals in the past, but they’ve always been “smaller” compared to a real-life job, it’s hard to explain. When I got the offer, I was in shock for the whole week. It felt so weird given an actual offer and having to learn about the benefits. I am just really excited and appreciative of everyone who has helped me along the way.
The past month has allowed me to fully embrace my adult-hood. I turned 22, ordered check books to write actual checks and ordered my horizontal ID. There are so many things to think about it, but I’m making sure that I have everything set before I make the move. I even secured a place to live for the summer!
The picture above won’t be my view for my first apartment or even 2nd or 3rd, but I know it can be in the future if I wanted it. I’m subletting for the summer in Astoria, which is a cute, nice neighborhood in the NYC borough of Queens. I had my friend Johan check out the place and he said it was nice, so I’m taking his word. I’ll be living with another girl who seems really sweet and will be working full-time as well. This is a temporary place, but I am planning to move into my own place with my friend Lauren in September. We really want to find a place in Brooklyn that will be safe, fun and nice. I am really excited to live in my own apartment and be a grown up. Although I am not looking forward to my loan payments, I think I can manage, which is a good thing to know. I am just so excited to move to New York, enjoy the 4th of July in NYC and start my new job.
My blog, “To The Next Four,” is dedicated to being appreciative and excited for my life after college, and I am making sure that I stick to my mantra.
